Again we used l brackets to attach the countertop. Countertops do not need to rely on cabinets for support if its run is only a few feet long. Use galvanized heavy gauge steel 90 degree l brackets and 3 4 inch wood screws to secure the 1 inch by 4 inch boards flush with the top of the board you secured to the wall. You can start with any section of countertop but it s best to begin with the longest corner section because the other sections often join or relate to this piece. If necessary especially on a crooked or wavy wall scribe a line on the backsplash and then use a belt sander to remove material from the back splash to make it fit against the wall. If you plan to have the front edge of the butcher block flush with the drawer fronts that gives you 5 8 maximum scribe width. Be sure to include any overhang you want the butcher block to have as little as 1 inches for a standard countertop or up to a foot for a seating counter and keep it consistent and parallel to the front of the cabinets as you scribe.
